Welcome to the New York Downtown Internal Medicine Training Program. This is an exciting time to embark on a career in internal medicine and an important juncture in your professional training as you decide on a residency program. The NYDH Internal Medicine Training Program is designed to provide broad-based clinical training with an emphasis on academic medicine. The primary goal of our program is to train outstanding comprehensive internists capable of managing diverse patients with a broad range of diseases. We believe this is essential whether you plan to pursue a career in general internal medicine, the clinical subspecialties, or academic medicine. As a New York State designated primary care program, our curriculum offers carefully balanced exposure to inpatient medicine while providing additional training in the ambulatory setting. The breadth and depth of our primary care and subspecialty curriculum prepare our graduates to excel in a range of clinical settings. We are equally committed to training clinical investigators who will spend their careers generating new information in an academic setting. We provide guidance and support for residents who wish to pursue research opportunities during their residency, and, when appropriate, residents are encouraged to utilize the Clinical Scholars research track.
The NYDH Department of Medicine has a long history of excellence in patient care and education. The strong commitment of the Department to excellence in teaching and patient care, a wide breadth of clinical experience, and an outstanding faculty and housestaff all contribute to making this an excellent program for training future clinicians.
